Last week Dr. Pet Mom was nominated for a $5,000 grant for people making a difference in their communities…
I thought I would share with you the text from the nomination…
I know there are many worthy people out there and wish the recipient the best of luck…
I know exactly why Bessie DiDomenica makes a difference in her community: because she loves animals. As a βbi-petualβ person (likes cats and dogs), her love for animals is why she created a social enterprise called Dr. Pet Mom (drpetmom.com). Bessie really is a doctor (PhD) and a pet mom of rescue cats and birds.
Dr. Pet Mom is a resource for the pet parent community with a mission to help pets find their forever homes. The long-term goal is to establish a retirement home for senior and special needs pets.
I also know how Bessie makes a difference: She gives back to animals. Bessie is a regular volunteer for puppy duty at a local dog rescue. She also helps process adoption applications for a local cat rescue.
One of her most rewarding projects includes donating home-made quilts to animal shelters and rescues around the country. After a natural disaster or devastating event, many pets end up in a shelter or rescue. Bessie makes lovely kennel quilts to place in their carriers while the animals wait for their furrever homes. When they are adopted, each animal brings along a quilt to their furrever homes.
Finally, Bessie is writing a book to make a difference for animals. Itβs called Dr. Pet Momβs Pet Parenting Guide: How to Enjoy the Love and Friendship of Your Senior or Special Needs Pet.
Bessie wears her approach proudly. Her face lights up when meets a dog or kitty. She canβt hide her βbi-petualβ nature!

Have a great weekend!
Be well,
