Greetings! Welcome to the June edition of Dr. Pet Mom’s Delightful Pet Menagerie (DPM) Newsletter. You might remember that my wonderful boy Oscar passed away last Fall.

To fill the hole in our hearts, we brought a feral cat into our lives. He arrived with a different set of challenges: little socialization, food anxiety, trust issues, and he’s a big boy. This month’s issue is about living with a feral cat and turning his life around. Enjoy!

Separation anxiety is a growing worry for pet parents returning to the workplace. Many rescue pets adopted during the 2020 lock down, came from unknown pedigrees.

But some breeds are more prone to separation anxiety. Breeds like the Alaskan Klee Kai, German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, Border Collies, Vizslas and Cocker Spaniels are just a few. April 30 is National Therapy Animal Day, a day to recognize the amazing work of therapy animals. And promote public education about the role of therapy animals in the well-being of humans and other animals. We also honor the thousands of compassionate handlers who volunteer their time. Together, these dedicated teams bring sunshine into the lives of people in their communities.

Pet Diseases: How You Can Keep Your Pet Healthy 😷

We’re in the middle of the winter and the flu season. Flu is preventable if we avoid contact with sick people, avoid touching our mouth, nose and eyes, and wash our hands with soap and water.

As a pet parent, you can also prevent disease in your family pet. Pet diabetes, dental disease, and obesity are preventable. How can you keep your pet healthy all year?

When Kitty Stops Using the Litter Box 🐱

As any cat parent knows, cats can be stubborn. Cats generally have five types of personalities.

Cats can be dominant and take over resources like toys or food. They can also be insecure, shy or skittish. Other cats are social butterflies and easy going. Some cats are spontaneous and respond differently in any situation. Finally, cats can be curious or nosy.

Whatever type of personality, your cat communicates in her own way. She sends a message when she leaves you a clue outside the litter box.

Welcome to 2025! January is a time for fresh starts and new beginnings. It’s a month to walk your dog, change a pet’s life and rescue a bird.

All month long you can train your pet and celebrate a special anniversary for Seeing Eye Guide Dogs on January 29.

Holiday Heroes Interviews: Whispering Willows Senior Dog Sanctuary 🐶

Merry Christmas to all! I’m happy to share a project that has come full circle. And just in time for the holidays! You may recall my Quilting For Rescue Pets blog about my small kennel quilts to fit pet carriers for cats and small dogs.

Again this year, I sent quilts to several animal rescue groups that save the lives of pets in disaster areas. To celebrate the holidays, I decided to conduct interviews with some of the rescue groups.

This week, I’m re-posting on of my fave interviews about a wonderful animal rescue group. These special people give so much to help homeless and loving animals.

Pets For Life in Pet Service Deserts 🐱 🐶 🐇 🦜

Have you ever heard of a pet service desert? It’s a community where services for pets are not available or affordable. Families in pet service deserts live in low-income areas. But the Humane Society of the US (HSUS) Pets For Life (PFL) program is working to close the gap in pet wellness services.
