Pets For Life in Pet Service Deserts 🐱 🐶 🐇 🦜

Have you ever heard of a pet service desert? It’s a community where services for pets are not available or affordable. Families in pet service deserts live in low-income areas. But the Humane Society of the US (HSUS) Pets For Life (PFL) program is working to close the gap in pet wellness services.

PAWS Act (Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers): Help for America’s Veterans 🎖️

America’s veterans deserve all the best services we can give them. Many veterans served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Gulf War or the Vietnam War. But between 11% and 30% veterans (more women than men) suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Celebrating Adopt A Senior Pet Month in November 🥳

The holiday season is a time of celebration. I’m happy to celebrate Adopt A Senior Pet Month in November to help senior pets find their new families.

“To create a pet parent community to encourage adoption of rescue and shelter animals. We want to help pets find their forever homes.”

My mission statement keeps me focused on helping animals. Many shelter and rescue animals are senior pets all looking for a furrever home.

Interview: Pup N’ Iron Canine Fitness Owner, Laurie Williams 🐶

This year, 2022 marks the 74th anniversary of National Dog Week. From September 22 through September 28, we celebrate the wonderful relationships between dogs and their humans!

Many of you know about my ‘bipetual’ nature – I love cats and dogs!! Oscar, my adopted rescue cat, is my best friend. And I keep a warm place in my heart for many neighborhood dogs.

I’m happy to share my interview with Laurie Williams, owner of the Pup ‘N Iron Canine Fitness & Learning Center. Pup ‘N Iron is a daycare, fitness, activity, behavioral training, and wellness center for dogs located in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Laurie’s goal is “Building better relationships between dogs and their people.”

Now that we’re back in the office, I still miss the office therapy dog, Rosie. It was fun to to visit our rescue dog, Rosie, a four-year-old Golden Retriever. Petting time with Rosie was the highlight of my day. We have virtual visits these days…it’s just not the same. But one company believes in the well being of its employees and offers an employee benefit for pet adoption!

Planning Ahead: Your Pet Emergency Plan ⚠️

September is National Preparedness Month. And June 1 through November 30 is the Atlantic hurricane season. We are keenly aware of the power of hurricanes like Hurricane Dorian this year, and Hurricanes Florence and Michael in 2018.

The damage from hurricanes is life threatening and devastating, for pet parents and their pets. One way you can prepare for bad weather is to create a pet emergency plan.
