This week, I’m celebrating my volunteer work for animal rescue groups. Two years ago this week, I leaped back into the world of volunteering. I’m continuing my work with a local animal rescue group, Bay State Animal Cooperative (BSAC) in the greater Boston area. After I get my round of vaccinations, I can also return to socializing rescue dogs for the Shultz’s Guest House, another local nonprofit.

This week, I stopped to pet some on my favorite doggy friends, Stanley and Grace. Stanley is a tiny special needs Chihuahua and Grace is his seven-year-old Chihuahua sibling. When I see them in town, I always talk to there pet dad β he’s happy when I stop to pet his little pals.
Grace and Stanley remind me of Dr. Pet Mom’s mission: To create a pet parent community to encourage adoption of rescue and shelter animals. Adoption includes helping senior and special needs pets find their forever homes.

The petition on Care2 Petitions asked the USDA to expand its SNAP food policy to include pet food. (The petition was closed in 2018.)
Although the petition went viral, it was not likely to influence or change USDA’s policy on SNAP benefits.
