Why I Volunteer for Pets in Need 🐱 🐢

This week, I’m celebrating my volunteer work for animal rescue groups. Two years ago this week, I leaped back into the world of volunteering. I’m continuing my work with a local animal rescue group, Bay State Animal Cooperative (BSAC) in the greater Boston area. After I get my round of vaccinations, I can also return to socializing rescue dogs for the Shultz’s Guest House, another local nonprofit.

Senior and Special Needs Pet Tips ♿️

This week, I stopped to pet some on my favorite doggy friends, Stanley and Grace. Stanley is a tiny special needs Chihuahua and Grace is his seven-year-old Chihuahua sibling. When I see them in town, I always talk to there pet dad – he’s happy when I stop to pet his little pals.

Grace and Stanley remind me of Dr. Pet Mom’s mission: To create a pet parent community to encourage adoption of rescue and shelter animals. Adoption includes helping senior and special needs pets find their forever homes.

Treating Dog Depression and Anxiety 🐢

What is a health condition common to dogs and humans? Mental illness. Depression, loss of appetite, anxiety, withdrawal, self-injury, and changes in behavior are symptoms of mental illness.

Anxiety and depression go hand in hand. Loss of a family member, a new baby, moving to a new home, boredom, or spending too much time alone can trigger anxiety and depression in your dog.

Holiday Heroes Interviews: Whispering Willows Senior Dog Sanctuary 🐢

Happy holidays to all! I’m happy to share a project that has come full circle. And just in time for the holidays! You may recall my Quilting For Rescue Pets blog about my small kennel quilts to fit pet carriers for cats and small dogs.

This year, I sent quilts to several animal rescue groups that save the lives of pets in disaster areas. To celebrate the holidays, I decided to conduct interviews with some of the rescue groups.

This week is my final Holiday Heroes Interview about these wonderful animal rescue groups. Staff and volunteers give so much to help homeless animals.
