Special Resources for Special Needs Pets 🛠️

May 3 is National Specially-Abled Pets Day. It’s a day to celebrate and educate the public about disabled pets. These special needs pets can be a challenge to care for. But loving pet parents know that the rewards for patience and understanding, outweigh the work.

Our mission at Dr. Pet Mom is simple: To create a pet parent community to encourage adoption of rescue and shelter animals. We want to help pets find their forever homes.

Rescue and shelter animals include older and special needs animals. These animals have challenges related to behavioral, physical, or a chronic illness (diabetes, FIV, arthritis). Special needs pet parents already know that their pets are not left overs, imperfect or can’t be saved. Their pets just need a little extra care and patience.

Why I Volunteer for Cats in Need 😿

This week, I leaped back into the world of volunteering. I’m working with a local animal rescue group, Bay State Animal Cooperative (BSAC) in the greater Boston area.

Springtime is their busy kitten season. Kittens are in demand right now, and BSAC needs some extra hands to help process adoption applications. I volunteered for a training session on processing adoption applications.

Prevent Animal Cruelty and Keep Pets Safe at Easter 🐰 🥚

April is a good time to celebrate our pet friends. Spring is finally here! If you’ve been indoors too long, it’s time to get outside. Enjoy a long walk with your favorite pet and shake off the winter doldrums.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) offers a few ideas to prevent animal cruelty, encourage pet adoption, and help rescue horses.

The ASPCA reminds us that April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month.
